One of the best ways to have summer fun in Iowa is to attend live concerts. Hy-Vee and INDYCAR announced that some of the nation’s best musicians are coming to Iowa July 22-24 during the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend, one of the top Iowa summer attractions. Country music fans will love seeing three-time Grammy award-winning country music superstar Tim McGraw, Billboard record-holding country music duo Florida Georgia Line and nine-time Grammy-nominated artist Blake Shelton. Attendees can also enjoy a performance from multi-platinum artist Gwen Stefani along with a food truck village featuring dozens of Midwest food trucks, kids’ games, activities and more.
“We want this event to be one of the most talked about events of the year by providing racegoers with an unforgettable experience,” said Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman and CEO. “Iowa will be the place to be this summer with these live music acts coupled with nationally televised INDYCAR races and a festival-like atmosphere that has something for everyone to enjoy.”

Alisabeth Von Presley is showing off Iowa’s homegrown talent with her performance on NBC’s new show, American Song Contest. The show is based on the Eurovision Song Contest and features performers from every state in the nation. Von Presley, originally from Marion, developed and displayed her talents in Iowa by starring in theatrical productions, appearing in concert and shooting photographs. When she is not touring the country, she lives in Cedar Rapids. Von Presley is known for spreading body positivity, her pop-rock style melodies and her affinity for all things pink.
“I’m looking forward to representing Iowa in a way that viewers are not expecting,” said Von Presley. “It’s fun to think of a pink-haired pop-rocker representing the Corn State. That juxtaposition is the most fitting metaphor for my life.”

If you’re looking for a good drink in downtown Davenport, you’re in luck. Mississippi River Distilling Company in LeClaire will expand operations to Davenport and open a new cocktail house and production facility. The distillery, loved by Iowans for their signature cocktails, seasonal drinks and events will open the new building at 318 East 2nd Street in Davenport.
“We have so many fans in the Quad Cities who like to come to LeClaire every now and then, but the drive keeps them from enjoying our cocktails at other times. So, we’re bringing the cocktails to town with a second cocktail house location,” said owner Garrett Burchett.

One Iowan lights up the Broadway stage in New York City for the revival of “The Music Man” starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. Drew Minard of West Des Moines started his dancing training at 3 years old and landed the Broadway role in early 2020. Although he has thousands of people watching him perform eight times a week, Minard says every show feels a little bit like home because the story is based in Iowa.
“I feel like I’m making Iowa proud, and you know, that’s something that I’ve always dreamed of,” said Minard.
