Iowans are living bigger – for less

As America’s most affordable state, it should come as no surprise that Iowans live bigger – for less. With more affordable housing, lower bills and shorter commute times, Iowa gives residents the freedom to spend their time and money experiencing more things they love

For these reasons, the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) named Iowa the #1 state for lowest cost of living and affordability.

C2ER’s study measured average home prices and costs for everyday expenses, such as utilities and groceries. Across the board, Iowa far outperformed the competition on its way to earning the #1 spot. The list noted that “there are deals as far as the eye can see” in Iowa, with rents and utilities coming in far less than in places like Chicago or Austin.

At a time when “the nation faces a housing affordability crisis” as the article notes, the ability to get more for less in Iowa was a key factor in securing its ranking as America’s most affordable state.
